Extended reality (XR) is an umbrella term that includes augmented reality, mixed reality, and virtual reality. During the 2017/2018 Academic Year, the exploration of using augmented, mixed and virtual reality began in the medical-surgical courses at CSU Channel Islands’ Nursing Program with development towards full integration in clinical courses beginning in 2019/2020 Academic Year. In 2020, we had to shift to virtual options in light of the pandemic and transition to online learning, providing further consideration for online uses of XR in nursing education.
